Emergency Lighting
Compliant emergency lighting systems for occupied buildings — installed, tested, and maintained to BS 5266. Emergency lighting is a legal requirement in every workplace, care home, school, and commercial building under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
What This Service Covers
Pro Energise delivers emergency lighting installation, planned testing, and maintenance programmes for commercial, public sector, and care estates. All work is carried out to BS 5266-1 and installed to consultant or manufacturer specifications. Our service covers the complete emergency lighting lifecycle: initial installation, planned testing programmes, defect remediation, and logbook management.
Installation scope includes escape route lighting, open area anti-panic lighting, high-risk task area lighting, and standby lighting. We install central battery systems, self-contained luminaires (maintained and non-maintained configurations), and illuminated exit signage. All luminaires are specified from commercial-grade manufacturers with minimum 5-year warranties.
Our testing programme follows the complete BS 5266-1 regime: monthly function testing with brief activation of each luminaire to confirm lamp operation and battery charge, and annual full-duration testing with 3-hour battery discharge (or 1-hour for maintained self-contained luminaires) including lux level verification on escape routes. All test results are recorded in the emergency lighting logbook and reported through Contracts OS. Defects identified during testing are reported immediately with prioritised remediation timescales: safety-critical defects addressed within 24 hours, all other defects scheduled within the next planned maintenance visit.
For care home groups, multi-academy trusts, and commercial portfolios, we deliver centralised testing programmes with consistent standards across every site. Testing schedules are managed through Contracts OS with automated reminders, consolidated compliance reporting, and portfolio-wide visibility. Every site's emergency lighting logbook is maintained digitally and available for inspection by CQC, Ofsted, or the fire authority at any time.
When emergency lighting systems are replaced or upgraded, we maintain life safety coverage throughout the works. Temporary emergency lighting is provided where required, and formal notification is given to the building Responsible Person before any system isolation. No occupied area is left without adequate emergency lighting coverage during our works.
Emergency lighting faults in occupied care homes and schools are life safety concerns. Our service level commitments include: safety-critical defects (total system failure or escape route lighting failure) responded to within 4 working hours, individual luminaire faults logged and scheduled within the next planned maintenance visit. Service levels are defined per contract and reported through Contracts OS.

What Sets Us Apart
Specific reasons to appoint Pro Energise for emergency lighting.
DBS-Checked Operatives for Sensitive Environments
All operatives deployed to care homes and educational facilities are DBS-checked (Enhanced with Barred List for regulated activity where required). Safeguarding awareness training is completed annually and documented. Lone working policies and vulnerable person interaction protocols are briefed as part of every project mobilisation.
BS 5266 Testing Regime — Fully Documented
Monthly function tests and annual full-duration tests delivered to BS 5266-1 with every result recorded in digital logbooks through Contracts OS. Test reports, defect logs, and remediation records are available for CQC, Ofsted, or fire authority inspection at any time.
Inspection-Ready Compliance Records
Emergency lighting compliance is checked in every CQC inspection of a care home, every Ofsted inspection of a school, and every fire authority audit. Our documentation is structured to satisfy these specific regulatory inspections — not just filed, but formatted for the auditor who will review them.
Planned Maintenance with Portfolio Visibility
Centralised scheduling across multi-site estates with automated testing reminders, consolidated compliance reporting, and portfolio-wide status visibility through Contracts OS. One dashboard showing every site's testing status, upcoming schedule, and outstanding defects.
