Environment & Sector Context
Residential care homes for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs are among the most sensitive environments for electrical works. Residents may be distressed by unfamiliar people, noise, or changes to their environment. Every aspect of the works must be planned to minimise disruption — from arrival times to tool noise to the routes operatives take through the building.
The safeguarding requirements go beyond DBS clearance. Operatives must understand how to behave appropriately in care environments, recognise signs of distress in residents, and know who to report concerns to. This is a workforce capability requirement, not just an administrative check. Care homes regulated by CQC expect contractors to demonstrate this awareness.
